6 important things to make your mind open to growth

What is the Mind?

The Oxford dictionary defines the mind as: "the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought." (MIND | Definition of MIND by Oxford Dictionary on Lexico .... https://www.lexico.com/definition/mind)

Also, according to Wiki, the world's most giant free online encyclopedia, "the mind is the set of faculties including cognitive aspects such as consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, intelligence, judgment, language and memory, as well as non-cognitive aspects such as emotion and instinct." Scientific and physicalist interpretations of the mind believe that the mind is produced in part by the brain.

I have always been a champion for growth; however, you need to have an open mind to grow in life. Be it growth mentally, spiritually, academically, growth in your career e.t.c. An open mind does not necessarily translate ⁰to a mind that soaks every information in and believes it as the final say."

However, an open mind in the context of growth and this article is one that doesn't hold preconceived notions or biases, but like a little child receives new information, methods, ideas, and then like an adult process this new information, churns the irrelevant and apply the relevant as deem fit for situational occurrence.

Due to experiences, there are mostly biases created in the mental faculties of adults. And these biases are not easily broken except through internal work and re-processing. Experiences are powerful and essential. They hold experiential knowledge and power that can be leveraged for future decisions and applications.

Although, the bane of experiences is when they become a standard and a yardstick that cannot be reevaluated worse still when they become obstacles to new paths, opportunities, or worthy risks. You'd never really grow if you don't open yourself to new ways, people, stories, knowledge, and journeys.

How to make your mind open to growth:

  1. Identify limiting or negative thought patterns that you have.
  2. Research sources of the limitations.
  3. Deal with the source.
  4. Embrace positive and can-do thoughts
  5. Consume resources that help stretch your mind to new positive thinking patterns.
  6. Submit to be taught and mentored by experts who have achieved success in the area of life you seek growth.
